Cardiac arrest is when your heart stops beating or slows to the point of having no or little pulse. The person will lose consciousness and CPR will need to be administered immediately. Cardiac arrest is different from a heart attack. A heart attack is usually a shorter episode and in some cases can be treated with medication. Cardiac arrest is a very dangerous event and in some cases will show no symptoms.
Cardiac arrests are the main reason that CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation) machines were installed only one minute apart in many major airports, such as Chicago's O'Hare and Midway airports. Because the reaction time of this event is so sudden and dangerous 911 should be called and CPR started until paramedics can arrive. One of the problems with this event is that it can happen to anyone at any time. People without any signs of heart disease or heart problems.
The best prevention of heart problems is to seek advice from your physician. Any and all research your family medical history is always good information for your doctor. Have your blood pressure checked and treated if it is high. Cholesterol screening should be done on a regular basis and can be treated with diet and medication. Quitting smoking is a big help to prevent all kinds of medical problems. Exercise is a great way to build your heart and is great for stress which we all have and can be detrimental to our bodies. There are also some vitamins that been found to benefit our hearts. Remember to check with your doctor before beginning any medication.
